About Witham Baptist Church
At Witham Baptist Church, we exist to glorify God through worship, prayer, the study of His Word, and loving fellowship. Guided by Christ, our ultimate Head, we seek His will in all that we do.
We are a warm, family-friendly fellowship where all are welcome. Together, we worship, pray, and grow in faith. Children are especially valued and nurtured through engaging Sunday School lessons that teach them about our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Join us as we build a vibrant Christian community and share the saving message of the Gospel.
New here ?
We’re so glad you’re thinking about joining us! Witham Baptist Church is a friendly, family-focused community where everyone is welcome—whether you’re exploring faith for the first time or looking for a new church home.
Our Sunday service starts at 10:30am at the Royal British Legion Hall in Witham. It’s a relaxed, all-age gathering with traditional worship, Bible teaching, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Children are very welcome and have their own Sunday School time during the service.
There’s no need to dress up—come as you are. After the service, we serve tea and coffee and would love the chance to say hello and get to know you. If you have any questions before your visit, feel free to get in touch - we're here to help.
Kids and Families
Children and families are a valued and visible part of our church community. During our Sunday morning service, children are invited to Sunday School where they enjoy Bible stories, creative activities, discussion, and prayer, all tailored to their age and stage of development.
Within the main service, we include a short children’s talk and family-friendly elements so that all ages can feel involved. We aim for a warm, relaxed atmosphere where parents never need to feel anxious about the normal sounds and movement that come with young families.
We are committed to clear safeguarding policies and good practice, with trained and safely recruited volunteers. Age-appropriate toys, books, and learning resources are available to help every child feel secure, engaged, and welcomed from their very first visit.
Our Services
We meet every Sunday at 10:30am at the Royal British Legion Hall on Newland Street, Witham. Our All-Age Worship service includes traditional songs, Bible readings, and a message for all ages—from children to adults. Free parking is available.
On Wednesday evenings, you’re welcome to join our online Bible study—a relaxed time to explore Scripture together from home.
We also hold special services at Christmas, Easter, and Harvest. Everyone is welcome—details will be posted here nearer the time.
We’d love to welcome you, whether you’re exploring faith or looking for a church family.
Ministry
Rev Michael Child has been our Minister since the foundation of the Church. Michael is married to Pauline who supports him in the ministry and leads the children’s activities in the Church.
Michael was brought up in Ipswich, where he attended the Bethesda Baptist Church. He was converted in his early teens at a Boys’ Brigade camp. He was baptised and became a full member of the Church in 1969 during the ministry of Rev George E J Bird.
After a career with the Milk Marketing Board and a time of being self employed Michael was accepted for ministerial training. Michael is a graduate of Moorlands Bible College and was ordained in October 1983. He did further in-ministry study at Spurgeons College and has held pastorates in Suffolk and Essex.
